Let me sort out the new home and contents insurance (I think I just saved myself about $2000/year) and then I'll sign up. It'll be less useful to me here in Australia, but I value your work.
Also, in your last post soliciting input. A number of readers mentioned how much content is out there and how that might diminish the value of another option. I respect that perspective; however, I’m beginning to wonder if that is the reason something like your newsletter is more valuable. With limited time, maybe it’s not about skimming and maximum variety but instead about substance. And more than anything, how do we know what the totality of opaque commercial influences are with larger outlets?
I’m not saying this would be an alternative to all other subscriptions; but, the opportunity to support someone you trust and the prospect of some access to you is worth the experiment for me!
I've been reading your articles from various sources for several years. Glad to see this progression in your career and I've happily become an early subscriber. Hopefully a lot of what you write will be 'unsubsidized'. By that I mean that I want you to tell me YOUR opinion, not that you like product ABC because they've been giving you free stuff for 10 years. Good luck with this next phase of your writing career.
Thanks Rob. I've always worked for my readers, not brands. That hasn't always made me friends or been the right career move in the short term, but is the reason I have such a good relationship with readers like you today. I understand this is an issue for Substack, and not you, to resolve, but I wanted to make you aware in case other people are having the same issue: I'm trying to upgrade to a paid subscription, but after seemingly paying, seeing your recommended writers, and being prompted to share your newsletter...nothing happens. I'm still showing as a Free Subscriber, and I haven't had any charge or confirmation email come through despite several attempts. I went round and round with Substack's chatbot customer support before finally demanding to be escalated to a real person. I was told that happened, but said it might be awhile to get any kind of response. 🤷🏻♂️
Oh jeeze. Their entire job is to make the experience sleek for you guys! And yeah, you're still showing as free in the backend. No rush or anything, if you want to subscribe just do it when Substack sorts itself out.
Ok, now THIS is a concept I can see myself paying for.

Thanks for subscribing Frank. You get it.

They seem to have got it sorted. I'm in!
@Marc can you post here again when this is sorted? I'm just trying to avoid the same whirlpool. Thank you.
Plenty of others are managing to subscribe without issue. It shouldn't be as easy as any other transaction on a major website.
cleared my cache and worked without a hitch
Good to hear. Thanks for signing up.
I tried it again today and everything seemed to work!
Awesome, thanks man. Whirlwind few days of travel and about to head up to the cabin now. But will have more content tomorrow.
