Thank you for this - I just went in and voted 'withhold' on all 3 board candidates. I grew up with REI, and lived in Seattle where it all started. Sad to see their recent behavior. I checked back through all my REI emails, and I did not see any that indicated they were signing on to support Doug Burgum. Did REI every notify members about this? And - I also looked to see if there was an email to members about the new CEO's message retracting this. Nope. Wonder why not? Aargh!

I saw the video on Instagram with the CEO saying they made a "mistake" on Bergrum! It was way more than a mistake and I was shocked they would do that. They should fire the CEO over that alone! Thanks for keeping us up to date on this....

How about “mend and made do” or go thrifting. That’s the way to go for the next couple of years.

Wes you are like an attack dog, looking to shred the legs and arms of those who seek to commit fuckery with the great outdoors. And the great outdoors becomes more critically important to the well being of mankind with each passing day. So thank the Great Spirit for you.

A mistake? That implies there was some reasonable basis for the decision in the first place. Sorry, but there could been no mistake about Doug Burgram, who appointed him and what his marching orders would be. Regret, perhaps having been called out on it; mistake, absolutely not.

Voted to withhold and will be boycotting REI until the employees get better pay and conditions and they stop supporting fascists

Do you know what “fascists” means?

This is disappointing…I always thought of REI as the “good guys”. Submitted my NO vote.

Too bad. I've been a loyal customer for years. Endorsing Burgum then retracting it is a shallow attempt to have it both ways. I hearby retract my customer loyalty.

Add 3 more withhold votes from this decades-long member! (I've been getting shit directly from the manufacturer since I learned about the union-busting. And Doug fucking Burgum?! Fuck all the way off!)

Member for 50 years. Ashamed by the actions of the current board. Counter in every way to ethos of the REI founders. Voted to withhold, as will my partner.

seems many of our ‘national institutions’ are tossing out their principles and biting the dust.

i have noticed a big change with REI over the years.

i was an original member of the first REI in seattle.
