My Dutch grandparents and their children endured five years of horror under the Nazi regime. Because of their stories and my lifelong obsession with the military, survival, and preparedness, I've been telling Americans for decades to be ready for the possibility of war and disasters.
Unfortunately, our nation's arrogance in our government and other civil powers, along with the belief we're "the best" and untouchable, will be the downfall of many citizens should the worst happen. Most Americans will not survive because they are ill-prepared for ANY challenge, including the mindset to endure such hardships or adversity. Hell, most people will lose their shit the moment WiFi, AC, and DoorDash can no longer serve their purpose.
I could go on, but you've got a great start here, and all of this is just one reason I've been working to help the LGBTQIA+ community and other groups get ready for the horrific shit show our dictator leader and his henchmen continue to grow every day.
Thankfully, there are those of us who care enough to protect ourselves, our families, and others if we're able.
But the preparation necessary because Russia is now able to invade because these countries can no longer depend on the US as ally does not align with reality. I agree that the US is now an unreliable ally but Russia has no capability to invade. The Ukraine invasion laid bare that Russias military has been depleted by corruption and does not have the technological capability necessary to compete with top tier militaries. They have reached a stalemate with Ukraine(well backed by the us as they were under Biden)which no insult to the bravery and determination of the Ukrainians would be no match for a Germany, France and Uk coalition. Yes Russia has learned from their battlefield incompetence but they have depleted their money and men and would be no real competition to these modern nuclear armed nations. If anything the Ukraine invasion showed Russia to be a paper bear who’s roar was louder than its bite or swipe.
I don't think invasion is so much the concern as is unconventional warfare. A large scale terror attack by a third party or non-state actor, an assault on a country or region's electrical grid or other utilities, some sort of political machinations with Belarus to do some weird shit in Kaliningrad, asymmetrical attacks on stuff in and around the Baltic Sea, and more are all very much a possibility, as is fuckery with Poland.
I agree that the true threat would be cyberwarfare to utilities, disinformation and other fuckery. As always the best way to fight facsism is a strong education system, which I think the Europeans have the US beat on.
Remember kids: fascism necessitates war. You can read more about why here: https://archive.org/details/ArmyTalkOrientationFactSheet64-Fascism/page/n1/mode/2up
kick ass article, Wes, thx

Sure, but look at the rise of far right political parties and politicians across France, Germany, Norway, Italy, etc etc etc. They're far from immune.
