The maskless photos that the NYPD shared show a completely different outfit and backpack (black backpack vs heather grey, chest pockets vs no pockets, hood drawstrings vs none, organic vs synthetic fabric) from the CCTV footage of the incident. Without additional context to connect the two, which NYPD has not provided to my knowledge, this is most likely a different dude entirely…. Which furthers your point about blending in. Also without special equipment a pistol with a suppressor and subsonic ammo is likely to not cycle… which as you said, if the assassin trained with the weapon he knew that already.
I think there's definitely two different people in the photos I've seen. Not necessarily both involved, or maybe they are. But as you say, that may be the point.
My thinking on the weapon of choice was that this was a throwaway. Now I am not sure. He obviously trained with it somewhere. Plus he spent money on it adding the suppressor. He also marked the brass. Maybe. He could have just had those ready to toss.
I have not tracked the case since it occurred, but I bet the assassin ran his routine in the area a long time. He obviously knew his target's modis operandi. I bet they frequented the same coffee shop.

This is, by far, the best take I’ve read about the story. You kept everything in perspective and knowledgeably presented your points. Outstanding!
Good analysis. Measured and competent.

Well, we will just have to wait for the movie.
Maybe it's not your jam but I figured you might touch on an Eat the Rich vibe since your vow to write a bit more about politics.
