There’s more good outdoors gear out there than I can get hands-on experience with in any sort of reasonable time frame. So, I want to start keeping readers up to date on exciting new innovations. Hopefully this can help inform your future shopping, and make sure you’re aware of the latest, greatest stuff.

Naked Primaloft Active Evolve Mid Layers

Hyper-breathable performance mid-layers are the most significant advance in technical clothing I can remember. First, Polartec Alpha housed lofted polyster fibers in a very open mesh chassis back in the 2010s. Those fibers wicked moisture and dried instantly, the gaps between them trapped massive volumes of air, and the sparse nature of the fabric provided no impediment to your body heat pushing warm, moist air outwards under high exertion levels. The result was the first ever mid-layer you genuinely never needed to take off, and one that was both warmer at a given weight than any other fleece, and much more breathable.
