Visualizing Trump's massive shrinkage

Yesterday, Trump ordered that nearly three million acres be stripped from Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. Now we have a map showing which areas are being stripped of protections, and the result is shocking.

Total acreage lost in each monument is much more substantial than Trump ordered in 2017. Where that shrinkage reduced Bears Ears from 1.35 million acres to 228,000, and Grand Staircase-Escalante from 1.9 million acres to 1 million, this order takes Bears Ears down to only 121,096 acres, and GSE to just 181,500.

Many of the core archeological sites and unique natural features just lost monument protection. I’m working on bringing you a full list of what’s now threatened.
