BWCA is a really special place for me too. So I want to remind everyone that we have a plan in place to defeat this mine, even if the corrupt Republicans in Congress do authorize it. Given enough organizing and participation, we can stop this: https://open.substack.com/pub/wessiler/p/the-plan-to-beat-trump-on-public?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=36iot

My family and I go to the Boundary Waters every summer. I know of no other place like it in the lower 48. I've been to most of our great national parks and there is no place I'd rather be than the Boundary Waters. If you're willing to paddle and portage a bit, you can make it to places where you're not likely to see another human. And even when you do see other humans they are scarce, because of the rules in place to keep it from being overcrowded and abused. The water is pristine. We've never filtered or boiled the water (of course we're smart enough to take it from the middle of a lake and not anywhere near beavers). Once it's ruined by this copper mine, we can't go back. There is not another place where a new BWCAW can be created. Most Republican politicians are greedy M-Fers. They have no idea about the treasure we have in the Boundary Waters because they're too concerned about making money to ever go experience it themselves. I'd call my Senators, but I live in MN and I already know they're against this.

Thank you Wes for your advocacy. Clean air and water are basic human rights.

I knew that the impacts of a mine would be terrible for the BWCA, but what you’ve laid out is even worse than I thought.

I did my first week-long canoe trip in the BWCA in 1972. Did not see another human being besides our group in 7 days. It is an unspoiled land of fish and wildlife. I watched 3 different bull moose at sunset walk out into a small lake; so quiet I could hear droplets of water trickling off their antlers back into the lake. I’m thankful to be Californian right now, with both my senators (Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff) and representative (Jared Huffman) opposing this evil mine and evil administration. Call! Write! Scream to save the BWCA!

I did my first in Quetico, north of the boundary waters and on subsequent voyages, made it all the way to the boundary waters between Minnesota and Ontario Canada. We began each of our voyages from very near Atikokan, Canada. ( I may have the spelling wrong for Atikokan.) **Ie., Quetico is a provincial wilderness "park" as they call it. It's a most precious little maintained preserve; They cut portages over the winters, as they can run machinery over all the frozen lakes.

I went on a Voyageur Outward Bound course in college and everyone who can deserves to experience the Boundary Waters in its full natural, and protected, glory. I’ve called my Georgia representative. Thank you for the info.

This happens so often it is on repeat for the liars that they are.

Having paddled in the remote wilderness of the Adirondacks, I can only imagine how special the Boundary Waters are. I do not understand how anyone would be ok with mining of any sort near any of these vitally important places. Keep speaking out and being a voice for the wilderness!

NOOO OOO OOO !!! I intimately know that area and deeply, so deeply akin with it ! It's far past time for "lines in the sand" that we dare not waver *(duh, 'waiver') from. I say this as a lifetime outdoor enthusiast of all types and varieties - wilderness camping, backpacking, canoeing, orienteering, etc., etc. ; All of which are in line with this grave threat and topic. We can't as humans, ever get 'time' back; Nor can we get back unspoiled wilderness areas. I can't YELL these truths loud or times enough ! Get off your azzes - ACT !

I just wrote more Wes, my amigo.. I can't restrain my passion for that area... I just can't !

Scathing report, again, on zinke. Very well written to make a long, heinous saga understandable to the average reader. Any take on how likely senate passage will be?

Republicans in Congress are drunk on power with the CRA, and they do not realize or choose not to care about the longterm consequences of invoking it. One of the reasons for that is it allows them to achieve their destruction of public lands through a simple majority in the Senate, rather than the 60 vote hurdle they couldn't clear with this bullshit. Yes, this is going to pass the Senate and be signed into law. Yes, the mine construction will be permitted. I have more to say about this, but am keeping my powder dry until the Senate passes the bill.

wtf! When it signed into law, is that The End or can it still be challenged?

Stay tuned.

Really disappointing from Steve Rinella and TRCP. What’s the driving force behind both of them platforming Zinke?
